during the molt can I feed layers pellet in my feeder & a dish of turkey grower
or layers in feeder with a dish of boss
or something else
cheers fil

Not a good idea to feed Laying pellets during a mold because of the calcium build up. They need more protein right now. I used a starter /grower and a feather finisher. You can also give them mill worms and sunflower seeds as well.

Many of us feed layer pellets right through moult and it isn't a problem.
Only thing I can remember is if the hens are not laying they are not using the calcium up and it can build up. But I know for sure they need extra protein during the molting process. I cant remember the exact thread where I saw it but they have been several lose hens because they keep feeding layer pellets through a full molt.

The thing is that usually when chickens are moulting, they stop laying eggs, so the protein in their feed that they would normally need to produce eggs can be utilised to grow feathers instead. Yes they will enjoy a boost in protein and a bit of animal protein in particular will be welcome, but they will manage fine on layer. I have difficulty getting a non medicated grower, so most of the time I have little choice but to feed layer to all my birds including male birds and the excess calcium does not appear to cause any problems.

I haven't experienced a lose either just reading when my girls went through a hard molt I came across several replys about it could potentially be a problem so, I switched mine until they were finished. I didn't want to risk it.
