this is my second year with my chicken but can't remember how long the molted last year, they all stoped laying eggin mid augest and haven layed one since

i am having the same problem! i have had chickens for a little over a year and this is the first molt.

I was reading in a garden magazine that they molt in the fall season then with the shorter days the eggs counts are lower. This is our first year of real Molting since our hens will be 2 years in March. My hubby thought they were just getting to the point of not laying anymore cause we heard they only lay for 2-3 years, so he has bought 18 new pullets in the last 3-4 weeks.

My feed store buys all the extra eggs I have and they are asking for more and I have several regular customers. We just can't believe all the people that only eat fresh eggs once you tell them you have chickens. Once these others start laying in the spring I will have plenty of eggs to go around.
