Wow, I hatched chicks and put them in a brooder hut at day 3, with a secured lamp, 5 chicks and it was thanksgiving.

now all 5 are 6 weeks old they are friendly, this is Dezi he is my favorite. They started out I had enclosed a smaller space, as they got bigger I opened up more of the brooder hut.

Well, you're in Texas, so they probably won't freeze. However, I would not trust her to raise the chicks safely after neglecting them at three weeks. That's like a mother leaving her seven-year-olds alone while she goes on a shopping trip with her boyfriend and spends the night at a motel with her phone turned off.

If you have any dangers at all, opportunistic cats, places they can get lost, etc, I would put them in a box and provide feed and water. Hens like that tend to lose chicks.

It depends on the hen. Most will stay at least 6 weeks, I have one that likes them when they are babies, and is ready to sit on eggs again when her latest chicks are 6 weeks.

About seven or eight weeks. Sometimes longer (especially with silkies) sometimes shorter (cochins.) If one of my hens left a chick at less than five weeks, I would be concerned.

She stayed with her last chicks for two months. I had them in a separate run but mom got through but the chicks couldn't reach. She is on the roost with the flock. I'm wondering if I should go get her a put them all in the garage together

I had a bantam that hatched a full sized rooster, he followed her around for a very long time and was much bigger than she was. He still talked like a baby. and would steal food from the mouth of other hens as if they were offering it to him.
