Mom to beginning 4-H'ers needing help!

Picture number 1- She looks like a cross breed game fowl to me. As for what she is I dont' know, just running on the body structure. She is a very pretty bird however. I have to agree with the birchin color.

Picture number 2- Is a Black Breasted Red Old English Game Bantam (As said above Dutch have white ears, and OEGB have red). I am thinking from the picture that yours has red, but I could be mistaken. Besides OEGB are a lot more common.

Picture number 3- I am thinking your silkie is a rooster, by judging what my own silkies look like at that age.

Hope they do well for you guys!

Yes. However, I've only ever known of one judge who noticed them. And that same judge made some huge errors--DQing all buff silkies becuase they all had at least a bit of black in the feathering--mind you now, these were all very good quality birds, and none had more than traces of black in the wings/tails. Also giving hte Best AOV award to a recognised variety.

Well I just wanted to bring this to the OP's attention, especially if they are going to start showing birds (didn't mention, but breed them).

Thank you so much for your help!!!
We are beginners starting out and had purchased these at a local farm store. I ended up calling up the distributer and asking about the black one.....they say that it is a Grey Japanese Bantam. I can see by how beautiful some of your Silkies are, that we'll have to do something different next year since they are my son's favorite

Also, thank you for correctly identifying the OE Bantam - had that one wrong too!

I think I know from looking at the picture - but want to be sure...what are "vulture hocks" - I have some baby silkies and would like to know. Thanks...

BTW: OP - Good Luck to your family - 4-H is fun and your kids will learn a lot. Hope they enjoy it! Let us all know how it all goes.

The 1st picture looks like a birchen OEGB pullet. We have one and she looks like her.

I can't see the rest of the pics on my work computer, but will look after I get home at the other pics.
