Momentary Panic

If you are near a TSC store you can get a 10 ft x 10 ft dog kennel that is 6 ft heigh with a regular size people door on it for $299.00
This would make a nice run to attach to your coop. the kennel is made up of panels that you fasten together. (It is pretty easy) Also easy to break down and move if you want to change spots for the coop n run.

No serious construction required.

I got one from Pet Smart online for $219.00 free shipping. You can make it 10X10 or 15X5. Thats what I used for my bantam run and added hardware cloth around the bottom 2 feet.

I live in San Francisco. The entire yard is about 50 ft L x 25 ft W. The coop will go in the far right corner in a space that is 7 ft, 10 in L X 10 ft W. The coop is 4 ft L x 2 ft, 11 in W x 4 ft, 7 in H

This is the manufacturer's webpage for the coop:

I'd love to let them free-range at some point but for now they're too small and there are too many predators in the area - hawks, raccoons, opossums, skunks. There are also coyotes, but I doubt that they could get into any of the backyards on my block. The girls will have to be covered from all angles.

My husband and I built our coop with a space under it for the chickens to have shelter from the weather, we lined it with the plastic white lattice from the hardware store. Don't forget, the hardware stores will cut the wood, lattice and stuff if you ask them to. Just don't forget to bring your measurements!

Good luck and if you want to see my coop I have pics of it on my page! Welcome, you are not the only one that worries! My husband is so tired of me talking about the chickens it seems to be all I can talk about now!

Oh good lord, I've been unable to sleep for the past three nights because my mind is racing. I've had chickens since October 2009 and I am in the beginning steps of buying a house.... so I'll be moving soon. My mind is occupied with far more about how to house the chickens and ducks than it is with arranging my furniture or buying appliances!! Fencing, transmorgrifying the garage into a huge chicken coop, where to set up the duck pool, all that "for them" thinking.

Tomorrow I get to measure all the rooms but trust me, I'll be scoping out the yard dimensions and trying to decide where to put what for the chickens and ducks. I need to sleep tonight.
