Momma Hen Has Turned On One of her Chicks.

Momma hen has 5 chicks which are 7-8 weeks old.

Today she has taken against the largest chick and pecks him whenever he comes near. She continues to call and care for the other 4. The largest chick and one of the others are male and the other three female (I think!).

I guess she is likely to ditch the others soon, but has anyone seen this behaviour of pecking one whilst continuing to care for the others?

Yes, it looks like it's time for the kids to make their way in the world....she took a quick swipe at one of the little pullets late yesterday. I think I will separate her from them overnight tonight (free rangers).
