The hatch from this past weekend gave me 9 chicks - both bantam and large fowl. But today I found I already had an early hatch from a buff polish as well! They weren't due until Friday, and all eggs should be due by Saturday.

But the first mommy took her babies out of the nest for the first time today. I didn't get my phone until they all went back into the nest for nap time. But I did get a couple of them all in the nest box together.

She had just settled in, so she hadn't covered them yet.

I had to keep chasing the babies down and putting them back in with her. They have been running to the nests of the other three hens. Thankfully, the other hens accept them as their own, and don't try to peck at them or anything. It's one GIANT family.

All four bantam hens are sisters, but their babies are mostly other breeds. I switched out the eggs once they became broody. This is the second bantam mommy with the early buff polish hatch. You can see the chick sticking out behind her wing. She seems to be on her own sort of "lock down" because she ate SO GREEDILY when I tossed that little bit of scratch and crumbles into her nest! Thankfully, I had a water dish waiting too!

So that's all of the pics I have for now. I will take the good camera out this weekend and snap last weekend's babies while they are out and about with mommy. I missed the best pic of one riding around on her back! The other three hens will probably be too busy hatching eggs to get out of the nest very much.

Here's some more! Still not the good ones, yet. Those are coming this weekend. But here are some more that I took while I was out counting them and visiting the coop today.

Underneath her wing you can see...a baby butt!

"Come around, kids! This is food!"

"Excuse me... step down so I can eat, too!"

My second broody with an incubator-newhatch. As soon as he was semi-dry, I took him outside and put him under her. She has three of her own that have fully hatched, and two pips - which are related to this tiny one. She just had too many eggs under her for the size of her body!

A good shot to show off his white crest! Yes, he's a polish, and POSSIBLY a frizzle!

The hens were MORE than grateful for the in-nest water dishes!

Silly bird. You can drink the water without jumping in...

Okay fine, everyone jump in to drink, then...

The rest of the young flock waits nearby... but they knew not to go near the young ones!

Okay everyone, it's nap time! Get int he nest with the CORRECT mother, and we'll go to sleep! Only 8 here? Hmm, Mommy #2 must be hiding one....
