I'm SO pleased with how mom is taking care of her babies,
I had built a cage type thing around her and the nest box, included food and water..... on the weekend we cut another door in the coop and enclosed a section of the run, so she could go out or take the babies out.....
Well last night I took the cage down (babies are a week old), so she's in the coop with babies and all the other chickens, I watched a while and kept going to check every 5 minutes - and they're all FINE.
Mom put a few chickens in their places when they looked at her or her babies - and if they came too close she got all puffed up.... but for the most part all the other chickens just carried on - business as usual.....
I'm SO pleased! the babies have even started scratching themselves, and they look SO cute when they're doing the chicken thing....
Babies first day out today, mom finally convinced them it was great outside. In one video you see another hen joining in the scratching and getting mom all upset - in the other you see them scratching happily till the rooster makes his "STAND STILL" call............
For the record, it was only about 70 outside and the chicks are a week and a half old...... mom scratched for about an hour and then sat down to let her little ones warm up...
