Hi everyone,
I am a new member with new chickens. I need lots of help.

Greetings from Kansas, momofLC, and
welcome-byc.gif
! Great to have you in our community! BYC is a great place to learn the ropes of responsible poultry keeping! Good luck and have fun!

I have a 3 1/2 week old baby chick of a Gold Batam Cochin. The mom had six eggs and only one hatched.
She has been pecking at it until it became bald under it's wings and the wings were both pecked in half horizontally.
I have taken it away and placed it in my house under a heat lamp with it's food and water. It reached 90 degrees here
in rural southern Va so I took off the heat lamp last night. I made a little outdoor enclosure for it so it could be outside
during part of the day. It's mama heard it yesterday (the first day) and came running and I tried to reunite them again
but she continued to peck and pull at it so I took it away again. I hope this is the best thing to do. The feather/fuzz is
starting to grow back but it makes a lot of noise sometimes.
How long do I have to keep it separated from the adults? I have five hens and one rooster. One of my other hens
just hatched two out of four eggs. It's been three days now with the first one hatching the first day and the second the
following day. Should I remove the other two eggs? She has taken the chicks out of the nesting box but returns quickly.
They are separated from the rest. Any help I can get I would appreciate it.
Thanks for all the welcomes :).
