Monovision with Laser surgery

I had lasik to correct both eyes nine years ago. A few years later at a regular visit to the eye doctor, she told me my eyes had adjusted to monovision. Since it happened over time, I never noticed it. Dr. said it will be helpful and keep me out of reading glasses longer as I get older.

A co-worker was in her 40s when she had lasik, her dr. had her wear 2 different contacts to see how she would adjust to monovision before they made the decision between monovision & the same correction for both eyes. She said it was very helpful in making her decision. (She chose not to go with monovision and she into reading glasses now.)

Thanks everyone. I had my consultation today. Since my stigmatism is so bad the guy said they recommend monovision for people like me who will need or do need reading glasses soon. I'm fine readin with my contacts now and at night I read in bed without any contacts/glasses. But will need reading help soon. Stinks getting old

Did it take awhile for her to get used to the monovision or was it fairly quick (a couple months)? If I get that done and it doesn't pan out like we hope, they will go back in and fix the mono eye for no extra cost within a year of surgery. So I'm kind of leaning that way but not looking forward to the uncomfortable feeling of funny eyesight.

Deb, do you use reading glasses too?

catnip, did you ask for monovision or is that just what they did?

True I had the surgery done 3 months ago. I go in tomorrow for my 3 month follow up. You know when I went in and talked to the doctor more about which way to gom she said "You know, you came in here to get 20/20 or better right?" I said yes. She said "Well, if you don't mind wearing reading glasses which most people have to anyway as they age, then go for the perfect vision" So I did. I didn't want to take any chances with the monovision causing headaches or me not adjusting to it like I should. So Now I've got 20/15 and depending on the lighting and size of print may or maynot need to wear reading glasses

I had mine done in 04. 7 years later, yes I need reading glasses and I need distance glasses too. However!!! Prior to surgery I was deemed legally blind by 45 years old. I am approaching 50 now and if this is the bad news I am REALLY ok with it!!!

Right now I can read without glasses but if I have the surgery like you did cc I will have to wear glasses for reading and for the computer. I've been nearsighted almost all my life. If I get monovision I might be able to read but of course I won't have perfect vision. I'm pretty nervous. I don't know if I want it badly enough to give my reading vision. I know it drives me crazy to wear my contacts because one of them is out of focus. I wear eye makeup and I can't imagine how I would look after putting it on without being able to see see what I'm doing. Hmm hmm hmm think I'll just chicken out. For folks in Debi's situation though it sounds like an answer to a prayer.
