Karla, I'll put your girls in 2 crates that you can have, so no need to bring a crate, plus that will give you a couple more crates if you want to put the broodies in. You can break the broodies if you don't want more chicks, its not that hard. If you want info on how, just let me know. Right now your girls are on grower crumbles, I wouldn't put them on layer till they get closer to laying, June or July.
Nice coop, and good price. I need a few like that for breeder pens. Its always surprising how the people that build these coop over state how many chickens they fit tho. With 20 square feet of floor space that coop should hold no more than 7, and he is stating 15-20, that would only be about 1 square foot per bird and they should have more like 3-5 square feet per bird.

thank you! The crates will be a blessing! I know not to feed them layer, the azure standard sent me grower instead of layer, but I will keep your girls on grower crumbles. That coop I had made bigger, he stated 6/7 in a smaller coop but we know if girls are happy they need lots of space. I would have had it bigger still but it's hard getting a coop that far away. The people are so sweet, I pray he sells lots of coops. There giving me eggs also, I can put them under my girls . Auracana , barred rock, asterlorps etc. can not wait to see when they hatch. The rooster is auracana. And the females to so I might get one !
Daughter is on the road now fetching the coop, can not wait to see how the girls like it. I had him put two x fours for roosts so they can sit on there feet in winter. Keep the toes warmer. The coop will be perfect for 7 girls.

Karla- pick the MOST broody broody and lock her up with the eggs. Try candling the eggs and see if the veins are still red. Usually the eggs take on a green tint when they're gone as opposed to the red/pink...
thanks, I will do this tonight, I candled last week and they were all fertile but 2 . But with her getting off the nest I sure hope they hatch. I have two that will not get up, and totally broody. If I lock them up, how do they poop ? Last time my broody pooped in her bed wow that was yucky. All over the place. I locked her in and then began to take her out side to eat and poop. Worked well, but that girl passed away. Last winter . We think she got scared from fire works for the new years celebrations.

Well I put the broody RIR Easter egger who for three weeks has been broody into the super sizer nest box blocked her in and oh my gosh she was mad. She would not settle down. She is rebellious , always laying her eggs on one spot on the floor under the poop board, this is where she is broody. I just grabbed a litter pan and filled it with fresh pine litter and stuck 3 warm eggs my girls hatched this morning. She was still mad I took up the space she has on the floor, she tried to make a new nest right by the new nest lol. Finally she jumped into the box and sat, then got up a few times looked it over tried a new nest again, hopped back in the nest and is now on the eggs. Tonight we will remove the infertile eggs and add the new eggs. We will also candle the other broodys eggs to see if there ok. I have got to get a candling light! My flash lights stink. When I get the crates I will look both into them to insure all is well. Ariel, I would stop these from brooding but I want several more layers for mom so she has eggs in wi ter also, and a few more for me. Will give the roosters a home when I figure them out.

What do I do we're going toFairmont and we have Chicks hatching when we're there. Could we take the eggs out and put a desk lamp close to them and have my grandma move the lamp away once they were done hatching could she move the lamp away like further like up higher. Haha dumb question right oh and she can stay here at my house to all our hens got taken by a fox so no putting them there. :p

Do you have them under a broody? If not then nope lol, no heat lamp, no gramma. Lol you will have to be there to provide food and water.

Like that coop Karlamaria! How many birds does your mom plan to put in it? Looks like a very well-built and executed coop.

Got my coop painted today! One coat of primer, which took almost a gallon, and two coats of "red clay" paint from Wal-Mart, which took another gallon. The red was a little more striking than I had in mind, but is getting darker as it dries. Will post pics soon. The coop is now 99.9% done - I just finished stapling hardware cloth over the roof peak permanent vent. I will have to do some sanding to get all of the doors and latches to fit again - if I was building another coop I would leave more room for paint!

I can not wait to see it, especially the red , I'm hoping mom lets us paint hers, I'm partial to a dark green with white trim, or red with white trim. You got a nice coop there !

Moms coop will hold 7 , but I'm hoping to add a few RIR to the mix this fall. We are so happy to have gotten a dozen eggs from the man who made the coop, I put them under my broody and she took them. Hoping to get several chicks to grow out for my coop and moms.

If they are hatching in an incubator and you won't be gone for more than 3 days just leave them they will be fine. A desk lamp would not be warm enough to hatch eggs, or keep chicks warm when they are first hatched.
