Hi, my name is Danyelle Hall. I am Jim's daughter. I am new here on this website. Can you help me find some buff toulouse geese. I'm in 4-H. I am 13 years old. I like geese. The first pair of geese that I had was Chinese Geese. Their names were Terry and Margene. Terry was mean. He bite me. So, when I got back outside I caught him and put him under my arm and then let him go. I chase him all of over the farm. LOL....

RoyalT, so sorry! That is a horrible Mothers Day surprise. :( Doug, those two are so cute! I was worried about my almost 12w buff Orpington as her face is SO red, I was afraid she was a he but after seeing your little guy I am so relieved!

Where to start? A few (we think 4... one HUGE, two medium and one smaller) ravens have decided my ranch is AWESOME for picking up take-out dinner for the nest... 9 of my juvie chicks and about a dozen eggs have been stolen by these hoodlums (is that even a real word? Spell check is supporting my decision to use it, so we'll just go with it!). They are quite the pests, and I'm pretty sure we can't legally kill them... Hmpf. So I have live traps set... we'll see how that all goes. They just decapitated 7 chicks, one completely disappeared, and one was half-eaten. I'm guessing the chicks were for fun and the eggs are for the nest. Grr.

Then we had our last lambing of the season, and the little ram lamb is a cutie pie. A broody hen hatched out three of her 9 eggs before the ravens ran her off the nest -.- And we have been spreading topsoil and seeding for grass in the new pen. Busy busy around here!

Hope everyone's doing well, the storm rolling through dropped a good amount of rain on us, so we're grateful for the free irrigation!
How are they getting to the chicks? Your pen must be open topped. Can you string netting over it or fishing line like a friend of mine did? I would feed the ravens poison feed or shoot them, it's all good when your live stock are being killed.

Getting ready for a wind/thunderstorm, and hoping that the worst goes around us. I'm attaching several pictures of one of the young roos I have --- Teddy the One-Wattle Wonder This is Teddy: Anyone ever had a rooster like this ? LOL . Guess it makes him unique. ! Hope everyone is safe with this crazy weather.
lol that's a riot, but your birds are beautiful! Wondering if two PAC came back as a chicken, you know one pau shaquur lol ( rapper shot in the nuts)

RoyalT, so sorry about your losses to the ravens. I know they are protected in Alaska because they are sacred to the native americans up there, but I don't know about here, it seems if they are killing your livestock you should be able to shoot them. They are so smart though, it could be difficult to get a shot. Hopefully your live trap will work. Thought I'd post a few pics of my chicks getting used to the idea of going in and out of the coop. Now, they are usually all in by 8:45, except one Buff Orpington pullet and one Black Australorp pullet hang out on the threshold of the chicken door, looking out! These are the same two that prefer to sleep on the coop floor. I have been placing them on the roosts every night, but don't know how long they stay there as all the chicks are on the floor wanting out before 6:30 when we get down there to let them out! Another hot day here (95) and my chicks handled it well. Supposed to cool down tomorrow. Check out my little BO Roo!
beautiful, love the whole set up!

Doug, your little ones are soooo cute!!!!!! they're like puppies & kittens (& babies) --- sometimes you wish they could stay that little & sweet.

Karla, thanks -- I think they are pretty! These ones in the picture are Lohman Browns. They are all 16 weeks old today. Easy to sex them -- the roos are one color, pullets another.

RoyalT, I am so sorry about you losing your babies. Didn't know it is illegal to kill ravens -- guess we don't really have them around here. We do, however, have hawks, but **knock on wood** they don't hang around in this area a lot where I live. We see them a lot more down by the river. I hope your traps work. Let us know.

Can anyone tell me what the incubation period might be for wild duck eggs?

Last week, a wild duck decided, for whatever reason, to make her nest in a flower container outside of the building at work. Everyday, there was one more egg added to the nest. This morning, there were 9 eggs, and I believe she is probably done with her laying, as she was in her "nest" all day. I took several pictures at different times today with my cell phone. The nest of eggs was early this morning while she happened to be gone, then the one of her, after lunch today. don't have a clue why she decided to come this far from the river to do this. --- the river is about 4-5 miles away.

Since she is so far away from water & food, we decided to get a kiddie pool, fill with water, and set it to the side of her nest. Also leaving oats, bread, etc. on the ground near the barrel.

Call us silly if you want, but we all are really hoping that at least some of the eggs hatch! Don't know how she'll get the ducklings to the river, but I'm sure she'll figure something out.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is so precious! I have no idea but how sweet of you guys to make her stay a pleasant one! A robin is sitting on eggs on the eve of our brand new coop. So cute!
I hope someone has more info for you!
