Montana

Beautiful pictures, Azriel! What a wonderful place to live & be able to see every day.

Raining here today also, we sure need the moisture so I am not going to complain. Guess I have enough to keep me busy inside.

Several of my pullets are starting to "squat" so keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be long & we will start seeing new eggs!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks Montanachicks, I love it here. The little stream and water fall was one of the reasons I bought this place, when it gets real dry in mid summer it goes to just wet rocks, no water falling, but still pretty. I also have a natural stone bridge that I enjoy showing people.

I am thankful for the rain but about over it. The chickens look like drowned rats because they won't go in until its monsooning. Is that normal? I was putting them in after a while because I was worried about them but after I have seen them ALL go in occasionally I know they CAN so I have been letting them decide. But honestly! They are soaked! Silly chickens. :).

.

Mine are out in the run soaking wet--I think they're happy to have some moisture, they know it will dry out and get smokey soon enough.

Im sick of tired of not having rain! It's been cold as heck but no rain, nothing! Makes me mad you all et it and we got nothing. Oh and I can not imagine a muddy run lol, mine had a pitched roof so water is diverted away from the pen and the sides have clear plastic on it still so them girls are as dry as dry can be. Having spent all that money on a long pen with a shingled roof was worth every penny.
My yard is pretty dried up. Spent 60.00 getting a water train so I can set it and forget it. My lawn is crazy shaped, long on the sides, long and narrow in the front and square in the back yard. To much time watering when we are on a watering restriction, so a train will go all the way around and no more moving hoses. It follows the hose so set it and forget it.

KarlaMaria, that train sprinkler seems like just the ticket! Bet it will save you a lot of time this summer. I have a brother in Butte and he is starting to irrigate too. My chicks all dried out last night and enjoyed a rain-free day today. And I had only one rebel chick roosting on the chicken door threshold tonight! I think they have almost got the hang of roosting.

Another thing, my little roo "King", the Buff Orpington has started showing how tough he is by making his neck feathers stand out straight when he goes into his offensive mode. I saw this first last weekend when our basset hound was allowed on a leash to the outside of the run, and King puffed up and made a charge! How funny, this little 1 lb bird defending against a 50 lb hound dog!

Cute! Little roos crack me up! Our little silkie is becoming quite the gentlemen. He let's the girls all go in the coop then he struts around a bit, making big sounds then finally goes in. Cracks me up. He is so tiny compared to some of the big girls we have. I like that it doesn't deter him. :)

I think I have a lot of roosters, I know what you mean about the puffing up, it's adorable. He sounds like one little dude you got there lol. All my chicks ( the little ones and the 5 week olds are now on the roost along with mama's it's adorable. I believe out of my leghorns I have 2 hens, out of the black chicks I have no idea, I will post pics soon. Maybe tmorrow. There so hard to take pics lol, tonight would have been great, they ate lots of meal worms . Then I dumped 4 bags of composted dirt under the hedges where they go and roll and play loving the cool ground and bathing in the Rick soil. They went ballistic with the black soil and played in it until there next treat, sunflower seeds and millet.

A friend of mine was telling me tonight that she was reported to have chickens in her condo back yard, ( there privacy yards ) and was told to get rid of them. She lives in Phoenix . She loved her babies, she was very sad :(
