Montana

these little guys are in my back entry way, Mom builds her nest there every year and hatches 2 or 3 hatches a year. Its fun to watch them grow up. I expect them to be gone when I get home from work tomorrow

And these are the the new pullet egg I'm getting daily

Azriel, you are getting lots of nice eggs! Can't wait till I get my first one. Those Robins are quite productive - my sister hosted a Robin in Cody, WY this spring and the little ones just flew out of the nest. She really enjoyed them. Have a good week!

Read in the paper today about someone's chicken coop being invaded by a black bear, somewhere near Billings. The bear managed to kill several chickens. I feel sorry for the owners -- whoever they may be -- and of course, the birds also.

darn bears, my dog chased a mama and 3 cubs off several times last year. They don't go near my coop, they don't like the electric either. i was a little afraid they would go after my calves this year, but I guess there is plenty of natural food for them and I think theyve had enough of the dog chasing them.
I get the egg cartons from one of the ladys I work with, she buys her eggs at Costco.

Azriel, glad I have never had bears but one was put down about 10 miles south of me this week for getting into a chicken pen and killing several chickens.

Have your chickens ever hit the electric fence and do you think it would kill them?

Doug, my chickens just walk right under the fence with out any prolems. I've read that they don't conduct electricity for some reason, something about their legs.
My baby birds were flying around the entryway when I got home today, I had one land on my head, and one on my shoulder. I put them out on a bush where their Mom was sitting and calling them.

yea for the baby birds! too cute, landing on you.

Thanks Azriel. I still like the idea of an electric fence. Let the chickens out in the yard again tonight about 8. They sure are happy out there. Did not see the dog tonight. Some of them, especially the EE's like to take short flights of joy. One of the EE's easily climbed to an altitude of 4' and covered about 30' before it landed! And, I saw my rooster King kind of do a funny sideways dance next to a black australorp hen! Anyway, as agile and quick as those chickens are, I think they would have a good chance of evading a dog, at least for a few seconds while I dealt with the dog!
