RoyalT, I am sorry about your calf. That's got to be heartbreaking for you & your family.

Karla, the chick is from a Lohmann Brown hen & Lohmann Brown roo. Lohmann Browns are a hybrid, so I'm not sure what color this one will end up being, but I am hoping for a pullet. The mama that hatched this chick is a little banty -- she is the only one I have out of all of my hens that will go broody for me. Before long, the chick will be bigger than 'mom'.

Looking forward to a little road trip to meet up with Azriel to deliver 8 leghorns -- I hope her idea works with the LH & Wheaton Ameraucanas.... I will be first in line to get one or two of those chicks! should be fun to experiment.

Nice to have a day off to do want you want to do.............. Hope everyone has a great day!

So proud of my Buff Orpington cockerel this morning. I was out in the run giving them scratch and King the cockerel was crowing next to me Then he ran under the coop to the east side of the run against the fence and squared off against the neighbor's boxer dog, who had run over to check on/harass the chickens. King appeared ready to attack through the fence, and even continued crowing at the dog! The neighbor heard the commotion and called the dog home! This is one of two neighborhood dogs who come over to "visit" the chickens. No harm yet, thank goodness, so glad I built an enclosed run!

good rooster! Rooster pity bull lol. So any eggs yet? Got my naked neck turken and RIR today, there as sweet as pie. Looking like point of lay with red combs and waddles. What's new besides work and chickens?

Thanks for the ovation Karla! No eggs yet, when I get my first one there will be pics and much celebration around here! They are messing with the golf balls in the nesting boxes big time. Any day now, I am down to 3 storebought eggs!

Got my first egg today! It was in the end (North) nesting box, next to the golf balls. It is only about 1 5/8" X 1 1/8", but perfectly shaped, light brown, and clean as a whistle! I don't know who laid it but suspect one of the buff orpingtons or black australorps. I am jacked! They are about 19 weeks old now. When one starts laying are the others far behind?? So happy tonight! No more store bought eggs!

YIPPEE !!! Seems like this exciting day took forever to get here, didn't it? So happy for you! If they are all the same age, more should be coming soon. And depends on the breed, also. Some start earlier than others. I got 6 BO's last year, that were 5 months old, and it took them another 4 months before I saw eggs like what you got.

So happy for you!
