I am from Huntley pretty close to Billings. I have been doing the whole chicky thing for a month. I have 4 barred rocks, 3 Golden Wyndottes, Turken. Americauna ( easter eggers) i have 3 of them. 4 i you count my Lewis roo. And one leghorn whitey named neckie.

Thank you yeah I did not really know at the time of the flock I have going but I am in love with them. I have some questions though. 1) my husband and I are wanting ducks. I would like a male and female I am wondering i I can keep them all together? 2) My Lewis roo is a sweet roo but he has been doing his roosterly duties a lot lately. Well my lil girls came to me with moat of their feathers gone. I have been spraying them with Blu kote. My question is should I put the ones that have red skin in the same coop but run a a wire fence across it and at night let them back in with Roo? What would you all suggest?

That sounds like a good idea Danish, keeping them separated from the Roo until their feathers come back. Or, it might just be easier to separate your Roo from the entire flock for a couple of weeks or more. He would hate it though. Found all four of my nesting boxes being utilized by four different breeds this morning - love those hard-working girls!

From left to right: Easter Egger, Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, and Rhode Island Red, 9:30 AM.

Im sorry for the delay in answering. I am currently running around like a crazy woman. I wanted to know things like which company is a good one for septic tank cleaning and inspection?. Who is a good company to use for propane, is there trash pickup in Sand Coulee or am I doing dump runs? Is there mail delivery or is it pickup at general delivery at the post office. Basically the details that locals know but are on a learning curve for someone new to the area. Might seem like basic info for many people but I grew up in town in Great Falls and septic and propane are new to me. I do know that Sand Coulee just put in a new well and the property is on city water but beyond that I don't have a lot of info.

We live between Cut Bank and Browning, I have 5 BA that are settled in my old greenhouse. Still have basil, peppers and a few tomatoes they don't bother. My chicks are now 2 months and growing fast. I like the idea of keeping a heritage breed going and really looking forward to those fresh eggs. Enjoy reading how others, especially Montanans are doing. Have a great day!
