I was really interested in 4H last year but my mother burst my bubble and said that you have to either sell the animal or kill it a turn it in for processing... but I had asked if I could take it home. She said only with horses and maybe chickens...

That's only with market class, and even then only if you win grand or reserve (at least at our fair). Everything that comes for the other shows is taken home if you don't privately sell it

Oh, I don't do much research on our fair... I only go for the rides and the animals... all my mom wants to do the whole time is sif in the market place....

I was a long time lurker in the backyardchickens forums before making an account. I joined because I breed poultry and wanted to connect with other breeders, fanciers, and enthusiasts, and I wanted to share what I have learned on my journey with others as well. It can be difficult to connect with poultry fanciers in Montana. I don't get out very much so I end up doing a lot of socializing here instead. My kids are somewhat active in 4H, but I joined while my oldest was in preschool. I was in 4H myself in the 90s.

I have 4-5 year old chickens and ducks in need of homes in Bozeman, MT. We would deliver nearby or meet in town. Would anyone be willing to take any of them in? (For free) I can give more details/pictures if wanted. The chickens pictured aren't quite all of them, but there is one of each breed and they are current.
