Montana

wow yaks are a great animal to hae ! Where are you located? Milk, sounds good, and not that yucky heated homogenized crap right? Lol
Today I got 3 gallons of fresh goat milk, we love fresh milk, and not homogenized etc. !
Sorry bout your Wilkie eggs, I would lend you a broody lol, she is in constant brood, hatched out chicks in the spring and always at it. I can hatch you some silkies, she is heading into broodiness again I do not have silkies not sure my girls would like little birds.

I'm West of Missoula. The yaks are great. I don't think any of my current girls are good milker candidates, though. I do milk my Scottie cow :)

Yes, I have more Silkie eggs on the way. I'm going to be using the incubator. I'm also building a tractor coop for the future Silkies I'm determined to have! Going to be building a pen for my Buckeyes, too. My laying flock just free-ranges, but I want to have some pure pens, too :) Only pure ones I have right now are Marans.

ohhh what kind of Marans ? I got a chocolate egg today, dark dark, used a flash on it to take a picture but you can see its real dark. Was wondering what my black bird with the orange feathers were and now we truly know, she is a maran. You can see her egg if you find my posts, I posted the eggs I got this weekend. The maran egg is in the middle, and there is one at the top but it's much lighter then the one we got today.

I will have to go see what buckeyes look like, I'm going to add a few different girls to my flock next spring, will put eggs under my girl again, loved seeing her mother so well.
I was thinking of a tractor, but my yard would look real crappy fast. M girls love to dig holes and I'm always trying to back fill lol.

FBCM hens covered by a Blue Copper Marans roo :)

The Buckeyes are big red birds :)

I have dust bath holes all around the barns, but otherwise, they seem to behave :) I'll let you know if the Silkies are destructive... I don't anticipate it, though.

what is a FBCM and what is a blue copper maran? Sounds interesting ! I went and looked at the buckeye, they look big red sexlinks lol. Dod not care for the color. How are there at laying? Keep me a breast of the silkies, I want one so maybe if you get breeding pairs I can drop down to Missoula and get some eggs this next spring and put them under my buff, she is one awesome brooder!

French Black Copper Marans are feather-shanked BCMs. Blue Copper is just like the blacks but... blue.

I have 2 doz. eggs showing up this week, so I'll let you know in 3 weeks if I have Silkies :)

I have some cuckoo marans that will start laying in a few weeks. Can't wait to see the chocolate eggs. Was thinking about the blue or copper for next year. Our juvenile rooster came from stock said to get around 13lbs. and he is one big boy.

please post your eggs when you get them, I look forward to seeing the color of the cukoo Maran eggs. I thought mine was dark but today I saw some really dark eggs on the web . here is mine yesterday,. and I used a flash lol. its so pretty.

A French BCM fits the French standard and has feathered shanks. BCMs aren't all French, and those without feathers on their legs aren't "French" even though they all originate from France itself... It's a doozy of a distinction Haha.
