Montana

Haven't been around in a while- busy summer!!! Azriel, glad you survived the fires okay. We did too- thank you for thinking of me! :) Got within a 1/4 mile of us and we had to evacuate as many critters into town as we could. NOT fun.... We were stuffing goats into dog carriers in the back of hubby's truck that pulled the horse trailer with two of our horses in it, and my car had dogs, cats, and a ewe with her three lambs in it. Gotta love those Subaru wagons! Hee hee! We had to turn loose the 2 donkeys, a horse, and our big buck goat, his wether friend, and our ram sheep as we had no more space. I picked ten of my BLRWs to take but had to leave all the rest of the poultry. It sucks playing god and choosing who gets to evacuate and who else might die. :( We snuck in the next night and pulled the two donkeys out. The following night we were able to get the ram sheep out. Luckily those that we turned out all came back safe and sound.
Montana is being hit so hard by fires this summer it's just terrible... I've decided I prefer last years flood to this years fires! ;)

Friends of mine over in Musselshell lost 90% of their ranch in this latest fire. Only missing one bull right now.

Fires are terrible. Hubby was paged out for mutal aid today. Small thunder storm went through and was sparking fires.

Hello Montana I am looking for a used American Standard of perfection by APA book with color pictures. So my daughter can use it in 4H next year. She showed this year in open class and was told this book will help her many 4 H years to come. Thank you

Any "Americana" you get from a hatchery isn't a real Ameraucana, it's an Easter Egger (Blue-egg gene mutt). So if your daughter is interested in just that breed, look into getting hatching eggs or birds from a breeder :) Good luck!

If she showed in Missoula, most of the birds there were hatchery birds. I think she could get a real edge in her class if she got her bird(s) from a breeder :)

Oh, and this is where you can order the APA Standard of Perfection book: http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/APA_ShoppingMall3.htm Not sure it has pictures.

Here are good pictures: http://www.ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html
