Alright guys I'll give this a shot. This is my second time raising chicks, but my first time with Banty babies. I'll try to get a video of her trying to walk on my iPhone to post on here if possible.
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Bantam from TSC, about a month old
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Chick is suddenly unable to balance enough to stand up, and falls forward when she tries. It's like her center of gravity is now towards her chest and she tries to balance back on her legs but wants to fall forward.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
Just this eventing when I checked on them.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
no
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
None that I can find.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Also nothing that I know of. They are still in the brooder.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Water and Blue Seal Homefresh (I was told by the feed store woman that it is a grower feed that it unmedicated as medicated feed can kill Banty's according to her [banty breeder]). However there is no distinction on the bag.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Unsure. Recently changed bedding as i thought she couldn't balance due to slipping.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
I just scrambled an egg per the research on this board. About to go try to feed it to her. I put her in front of the crumbles and she did eat so she isn't off feed.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Since it is 9 pm I need it to be treatment I can do here.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
6 small Bantams in a large rabbit cage with shavings for the bedding. Nothing has changed in the brooder sense since they got here and this is the first problem we've had.
