I want to know how soon I can put the chicks out with the rest of my chickens. The rooster is in the same pen as the rest of the hens. Do I have to separate the roo from the hens? What should be night time lows be at before I put them outside for good. I have the two of them in the house right now. Also how do I tell what their color is going to be? These are the first ones that have lived longer than 1 week so I'm not too sure what to do with them now. lol. Any information that you have for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Where'd ya get your silkies from? You need to wait to put your babies out with the others until the silkies are close in size to the other birds so they don't get picked on. Even then, you'll want to introduce them to the others slowly. put them in a cage in the coop, so they can socialize, and not get hurt. With silkies being bantams, you'll want to wait until they're full grown. do you have any pics? we'd love to see them! They should already be the color they're going to be. now, with your nighttime temp concerns, from birth through 1 week, a chick needs to be in a temp of 95 degrees, lowing the temp by 5 degrees each week. since your little ones are 4 weeks old, I would say no cooler than 70~75 degrees. I hope this helps you.

I would put some pics up here but I'm not too sure how to post them on here lol. I live in Thunder Bay Ontario Canada and I answered an add on line for this young girl that raised 5 of them as a project for university but lives in the dorms and couldn't keep them so she sold them to us for like 20 bucks or so. We have 3 partirdge, 1 red and 1 blue splash rooster. the other 4 are hens and we finally have 2 chicks that made it longer than one week lol. I don't know what colours they will be but the other three that died were all yellow and these ones have dark markings on them. They sure do look funny now that all the down is coming off. This is the first time raising birds. I was a cat lady in the past with kittens every 6 months now I'm doing chicks. lol. I will try to figure out how to get pics on.
