Morbid craigslist ad

I have a degree in Biology/ animal science... I agree that bones are super neat and great to teach with! I have a rebuilt turtle skeleton( I found the peices out hiking one day)...it's pretty cool! Now if the guy was wanting to buy animals in hopes to actually kill them & excavate their bones just for that purpose...that's kinda morbid..uggg!

I think, and this might not be correct, they are people who donated their bodies for research/education purposes?

I think it is super cool. I would love to take my kids......it was very close to me not all that long ago but I didn't know until the day after they left. Personally, I think it is very healthy for children to view, and learn not to fear, dead bodies.

Bones are cool. I have them all over the place. I even have a small pelvis in my jewelry box.

I once knew someone who wanted a cow skull, and we had a cow die on the back of the farm. I didnt want them to burn it so I had to check back for weeks until I could get the head off and we burned the body. Then I had to wait longer until most of the meat was gone, and the skin was all shrunken and leathery. Then I peeled most of that off (with gloves) took it home, washed it, bleached it a few times to soak out the bugs, and then presented it as a gift. Talk about morbid, lol!

But what i am asking is, if the schools sell the bodies after they are done using them for science? So people can make art objects out of them or whatever. Ooh, i hope not..i have family members that donated their bodies to science..but NOT to anyone else!

When I was a kid, someone shot a coyote where I used to hike. I watched it decompose all summer, and after a years time, I took the bones home and reassembled as much as I could. I found however, that smaller animals carried off most of the little bones, so all I managed to salvage was the skull. I treat my coyote with respect because I think about the fact that it was once a living animal, but I do hang it up on my door every Halloween.

My father passed away this May. He wanted his body to be donated to a medical school so that future students could learn from his body. I miss him, but I'm proud of his choice - what a kind and noble thing to do for students. He is making it possible for people to be better doctors ... I'm going to meet the students who have been assigned to work on him this coming December... they have a memorial service for the families, but it also serves the purpose to humanize the body... to show that it is a person with a family, friends, life story and that they were more than just a subject...
I think that in the case of the Body Works cadavers, they are unclaimed transients ( oh that sounds bad, no disrespect ) - I heard that but cannot be sure. I imagine some of the cadavers came from personal choice donations too...
I sign on to BYC every day because I'm grieving. I look forward to chicken talk... When I was born, my father and mother had chickens. I grew up with BR's and RIR's... so in a way, my dad's legacy lives on through me!

Well, that exhibit isn't really supposed to be art just for the sake of art. It is supposed to be art for the sake of education. The bodies aren't made into various objects and freakish poses. It is done respectfully to expose the hidden parts of our bodies. I would assume that, if I donated my body to be used for whatever purpose, it could end up like this. I always say I wouldn't mind as long as they promise to do a tummy tuck first. LOL
