I was at the fairgrounds today and it always seems there are baby birds falling from those nests. Unfortunately people like to move them, or step on them, or throw them in the garbage...so I always end up with a couple by the end of the day. Today we had two starlings fall out of a nest by our food stand. We stuck them back in the nest and they just kept falling out. They are about two or three days from being releasable, so I plan to feed them until then. I will then release them in the backyard.
A little boy also apparently found a nest of baby birds in the creek. I don't know how true that story was, but the entire nest was soaked. I ended up with two from that nest as well. These ones are much younger...maybe about a week old. I will have to hand raise them for another few weeks before I can release them. These look like baby swallows, but its difficult to tell.
I will take pictures tomorrow! They certainly are cute! I would probably keep the starlings if I wasn't heading back to college in the fall. I doubt they would let me bring them! They let us get away with mice last year, but I think a loud starling would be pushing it! LOL
