More Delaware Pics @ Almost 15 Weeks Old

They're so pretty! One of my new babies is a Delaware:

Of course, she's only a hatchery chick, but she's frontrunner for my favorite - she's always the first to approach my hand when I reach into the brooder. She seems quite confident. I hope she looks as pretty as yours when she grows up!

Aw, how sweet! Well, today was THE DAY. I removed the two runners-up in the rooster contest to the little Firetower coop, where they will live till someone wants them or they are culled. Then, since the Rockstar, now officially named Isaac, has the girls all to himself, my 11 month old Del girl, Kira, was put in the Delaware group. She's going through the hazing that's par for the course and Isaac is strutting his stuff and grabbing headfeathers for all he's worth, LOL. Hope things settle down in a day or two for sweet Kira.

I'd say "calm" describes the hens pretty well, generally speaking. If you walk into a Delaware coop, you will not have birds squawking and flying everywhere. What you will have is several confident birds pecking your pants and scratching at your shoes. If that's "calm," then yes

. The youngsters are active. The males range from balls of fire to sweet and docile. Just depends. I've found that different lines have different traits to offer.

I agree with Janet that the hens might be considered calm, but yet, alert and wanting attention. The males have run the gamut for me. Since removing the two other cockerels from the coop, Isaac is visibly calmer and already seems more mature. No competition, no need to always be jumpy and wary. Kira, my 11 month old girl, is just the sweetest thing, very laid back and quiet.
