More eggs than hens?

I try to collect every day.
Yesterday I collected 12 eggs. This evening I collected 16 eggs. I have 11 hens?

Sometimes they may lay two a day. OR someone might be trying to pull your leg.

Is it possible that the hens hide them, and then bring them back out?

I mean, I understand that they cannot move them from the nesting boxes, which are high off the ground, but, it seems all the eggstras I find are on the ground in a nest built by a hen...?
