Hi all,
new to chickens and in the planning stages for my coop, and ive run into a couple questions. So im forced to break my silent lurking and ask for answers.

Ive seen some replies to posts basically saying
1)........the boxes should be up off the ground. Is that just because they feel a little safer? To avoid bugs, rodents, snakes, etc.??
and
2)....the boxes should be lower than the lowest roost. Why is that? Will chickens always roost at the highest spot they are provided? And I dont want them roosting on the front of the nest boxes, interupting that private moment?

Thanx in advance for your help!

My boxs are only centemetres off the ground to prevent damp. No real floor predators other than rats.

The roosts need to be higher so's the chooks (supposedly) prefer them to the box's etc..... I dunno though... My blasted Cockrell has his Butt sticking out of one every night and he hardly fits ! (Buff orp)
