More on my chicks feet...QUESTIONS and PHOTOS.

Hey there. Just when I thought things were getting better, now the bottom of my chick's feet look horrible and painful. I feel bad for her. We have tried so hard to make her well and it would be so sad if she died or something happened now. I don't know what else to do.

As you can see from this picture, there has been great improvement between the toes:

But now both of her feet look awful, painful and cracked on the bottom:

My neighbor told me that once a chick has had this many issues, that normally they will die or end up diseased. I hope this is not true.

I was considering putting Lanolin Cream on her feet, does anyone have opinions about this? It's a cream used for nursing mother's (human mothers) when they have dried or cracked sore skin from nursing. It contains: 100% Lansinoh Brand Lanolin - World's Purest Lanolin, ultra pure, medical grade. USP modified Lanolin.

Looking forward to any advice you can give.

Do you know what happened to her feet? It looks like burns. I am guessing she's still in a brooder. Be sure to keep everything clean and dry. What about bag balm to coat the feet? I'm not sure about the product you listed or if it should be used on birds, so I don't want to give any advice on that. I'm so sorry for your baby chick..poor thing.

The brooder is kept very clean. I clean it out daily with plenty of room to get away from heat if they desire. I have six chicks all together in the brooder. I have provided her with a paper towel in the brooder to lay on if she wants. I don't have another lamp or I would try to put her somewhere that doesn't have the shavings for a while. They get fresh water twice a day (they are getting vitamins and antibiotics as well right now).

They get as much food as they want and need.

These are not burns. In fact, no one can seem to tell me exactly what is going on. And, it will cost me 50.00 to take her to the vet, which just isn't possible to do right now.

I feel so bad and so frustrated that I don't have any solutions for her.

Have you tried pantothenic acid and biotin. After looking on google, I found a website showing symptoms chicks/chickens get with a lack in certain nutrients. It describes your chicks symptoms and says it's from a lack of pantothenic acid and biotin.

I think it takes some time to improve (more than a week) so be patient and good luck!

The supplements that I am giving her have the pantothenic acid but I could not find anything with biotin in it.

Could you send me the link with the info that you found?

Also, I looked up some pics for chick biotin deficiency on google image search and the lesions that I found were grey and crusty. They didn't seem to look like my chick.

Give your chick some "poly vi sol" with out`IRON. You can find it at Walgreens in the childrens vitamin row.

This stuff really does wonders for sick birds. I use it on my New Jersey Giant roo who came down with some poop issues.

He is doing really well now, eating and running about the yard.

For soothing I would try something gentle like aloe or naturopathic calendula cream. Or quality Vit E from a capsule. Lanolin might be too strong or the chick might have a reaction to it.

Neosporin? Nothing with any kind of "caine" in it, but just plain old Neo? Poor thing! I hope she gets better!
