More work done to the coop!

Well i believe 'the chicken coop' is a forever lasting project when keeping these wonderful birds as i always think to my self when im in there with them this would make it better or that would then i make something new or alter something and as i scraped my first idea of coop with the find of a 6x4 brand new shed from the local wickes yard was found with a missing roof for £20, i fort it would make a better, happier home for our chooks so i set off to work yet again!!


Im sorry im a boring person with writing rubbish but i like to explain things so your on my level and i will take any information or advice in to help me better the coop for the chooks sake not mine, so here is what i did when i first bought is as i got rid of the old and needed a home straight away that day

the shed put up so you get the idea off it.

When we first put it up this was the insides nice an basic with a big horrible place for the eggs i wouldn't even call a nest box and a perch with a normal feeder and drinker (not pictured)


So we moved house and when we did we wanted the chicken to have a new improved home too so we made a few little changes below!!

We advanced the water system to auto cups which are gravity fed from a bucket




we went all out on the nestbox with the old one getting messy with the birds roosting on the top of it and got a rabbit hutch which is too small for a gunie pig and put it on the side (picture in progress)



excuse the messy garden lol it has gone since taking the pictures this the external nestbox with a lifting lid of course! (ignore the wire) the little chooks taking a look too, the reason behind the roof beams sticking out is because when i do the winter run im going to put a little porch roof on i think but im not 100% sure on the idea now!

loads more space inside now the big old nestbox has gone im intending to put up another perch too (sorry about the poor picture)


we even added a pop hole because before i made the door a stable type door and just opened the bottom half i have a motor for the door which im going to fit to the back of it pritty soon! look the first chook to check it out!!


this coop we love didnt cost much at all it was well under £100 ill tally the cost up and update them soon thanks for looking and and imput or idea is highly welcomed!!

Nice looking coop! I use similar automatic watering cups in my coop; they work well most of the time, but can sometimes be prone to leaking.

Looks good so far, if I were you I would make a ladder type of roost that can flip up out of the way for easier cleaning or be removable all together, I'm sure they will be happy.

Looks great, and no need to apologize about the garden, Anyone who keeps a garden knows how cluttered they can get.

How are you going to open the top half of your hutch door with the cord for the pop door going in front of it like that, will the cord be moved when you install the motor?

Thanks for all the comments and for those cups when they leak just wobble the yellow end round and its fine but mine only leak when my 2yo daughter plays with them and the door I screwed it back up for a full door as I have vents under the roof so air int a issuse although if we have a hot summer ill take the two screws out because we will put the motor and wire only on the bottom half of the door, my next project is a winter run with the chooks free roaming 2 a week in the wet winter and 4 times a week in the summer then the garden will be manageable too keep it nice!
