I love your story what an improvement, you chick parents you !
I love idea of covering run if possible with that wet weather. Cold and wet is no good for chickens .
If your close to neighbors I would consider no roosters.
( good ones for meat or re-home )
Make sure they aren't crowded in coop.
I'm glad you gave chicks another try ! Aren't they great!

I'm glad you gave chicks another try ! Aren't they great!
They are great! My daughter and I sit out in the run hand-feeding them and discussing all things chicken. As hard as it is, having raised them from day-old chicks, we're going to definitely not do roosters. It makes me sad, but the neighbors and the local resident owl family will not let me let them free range outside of their run. Fortunately, it's a pretty big run.
