Hi - I'm new to chickens and was wondering what pest spray everyone uses for their backyards. Would you all let me know what spray product you use to kill mosquitos and ants in your backyards with chickens that sometimes roam. Before I had chickens i only had dogs and we used the backyard cutter safe for pests and children once it dries. When i do a google search it pops up as safe for chickens but thought i would check in here as well. Thanks! I am not goign to spray it on the area that the chickens are in im just hoping i can spray it everywhere else so i can be outside!

We have ants in our house every so often. I go around the house and sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the whole house. A day or two later, they're gone.

For mosquitoes, we put First Sat. Lime in the wetland areas around the creek that flows behind our house. That stuff doesn't harm fish, frogs, or anything, but kills mosquitoes larvae. The other thing we do is put a dunk (available on Amazon) in a 5-gallon bucket half filled with water. We make 4 of those and sit them several yards away from each other along the back yard where the forest and creek is. The females are drawn to it, and lay their eggs in there, which die.

Check around your property and make sure there is nothing that's catching rain water sitting open. Those are perfect mosquito breeding areas.

After the chickens are in the coop, we fog if we want to be outside.

For flies, we spray a dot of PT-Alpine on each wall of the coop. I know you didn't ask about flies, but just throwing that out there. This stuff doesn't work on mosquitoes that I've noticed.

Welcome to BYC!!
