Hello - I free range all day for my girls and have been adament for years that we spray absolute nothing on our organic farm. But the mosquitos are truly unbearable this year and I'm wondering if anyone has ever used anything like the Mosquito Magician sold by Arbico Organics? Individually the ingredients appear to be fine for chickens (all essential oils) according to my research but I'm looking for actual experience as I'm just nervous to put anything out there. Thanks!

Hello! Welcome to BYC :welcome

I'm in the same boat as you. We even have pollinator gardens around our property. Mosquitos have been extra, extra bad this year, and we have mosquito-transmitted diseases in our area, so I don't want to take any chances with our health. I also don't want to affect the chickens, especially since they jump all over us. That said, I do use chemical sprays. It's the only thing I've found to work, sadly.

I finally bit the bullet and had my garden/chicken clothes sent in to be treated with permethrin. This way, I'm not spraying myself (and the surrounding area) with DEET every morning. The treatment just stays on the clothes and lasts through something like 70 washings. Permethrin is also used to treat poultry mites in cooler weather (since it's available in a dust vs spray), so fairly chicken-safe if used mindfully.

I've been super happy with it. Sorry it's not something organic, like you're looking for, but I wanted to mention the permethrin as a sort of in-between option.
