There's a few things I use for biting insect repellant on my animals (and garden). I make all my own solutions and sprays. I really like neem oil, it's one that works well for everything. So neem oil, citronella essential oil, rose-geranium essential oil (this only works for ticks), peppermint essential oil, eukalptus essential oil, tea tree, and lemongrass essential oil. For mosquitos I would use a 8 ounce spray bottle and fill 4 ounces with water (I use distilled), 2 ounces witch hazel, 1 ounce apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon neem, 40 drops of peppermint essential oil, 40 drops of citronella essential oil (to be honest though I haven't added the citronella ingredient in my mosquito spray this summer because I feel like mosquitos aren't bothered by it anymore....almost like they become immune). You could literally just use the water and neem alone and that would work but, the witch hazel keeps it applied all day long, and the peppermint smells good because the neem definitely doesn't. You can get a big 8 ounce bottle of organic neem on Amazon for $10. If we're having a particularly bad mosquito year I'll also make infused water with garlic and parsley to drink throughout the day, just for extra protection. Everything I use on my animals I also use on myself and the neem is fantastic....and trust me I know because the mosquitos will leave everybody alone and all bite me. I'm a mosquito magnet.
