my son made a trough self waterer and has finally figured it out and by himself and it took him a while to figure out where it finally is automatic now the problem:

he went to check and make sure everything was still working, he found larvae in it. I've gone though other posts and some say to add bleach but he is worried about the chickens and we need to know exactly how much bleach per gallon we haven't seen a standard amount it varies.

Will bleach affect the eggs?

Thanks

You can go get feeder gold fish for 15 cents each and they will eat the larvae. I have some gold fish in my horse stock tanks that are 8 - 10 years old. I never feed the gold fish - not even in the winter.

there is no larvae in the barrel just in the trough, they can't get in the barrel we have it covered and even has screen over it
