Is there anything I can use in and around the yard to kill bugs that won't harm my free range chicks?

I'd put this in the predator and pest forum, but I use bats, and just make sure to clean up stagnant water.

Bug zapper, citronella candles, barley bales for small ponds... there are some organic mosquito foggers that are pet safe I found at the grocery store. Not sure if they really help though.

bug zappers don't work:(

Mosquito larvae can be killed organically by mosquito dunks available at Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, and lots of other stores. They contain BTI a bacteria toxic only to mosquito larvae and they last for 30 days and cover 100 square feet of surface water. They are non-toxic to all wildlife, pets, and humans and labelled for organic gardening by the US EPA. Dump as many places as you can where you find standing water ie. flower pots, gutters, childrens pools, tires and put these dunks in all other water areas.

I haven't figured out how to eradicate the mosquitoes yet, but I did cut them down in a big way. I stuck whole cloves in oranges and lemons and then cut the fruit in half and hung a couple inside the coop and a few outside of it. (All outside the chickens reach) That helped a lot! Then I planted several different types of mint around the outside of the cage and that has made an even bigger difference. I can finally go out there to the coops without swatting the whole time. The only thing I suggest with the mint is that you fence it from your chickens as they find it a great time scratching around in it lol. As a bonus, none of these are harmful to the flock and it smells nice to me.......just not the mosquitoes. If you don't like mint, there are several other plants that work. I just googled "herbs that repel mosquitoes". Good luck in whatever you try!

Oh and also, google "DIY mosquito traps". They supposedly work really well too

We have a horrible mosquito problem too. I love all the ideas here!

What about Permethrin sprays with water from the hose? If I spray the bushes and perimeter is it ok for my free range backyard chickens?
