Hello my chickens Friends, tonight when I went to headcount my chickens with a 1300 lumens flaslight I saw mosquitos flying around were my hens were roosting. I had move there coop to a diferent place and now the mosquitos seem to found them again. It have not rain here neither is humid and I still have mosquito problems. Poor hens some of them have recovered from dry fowl pox and now I am seeing other hens with white ash dots on there combs :/ even my turkey have mosquitos bites all her neck poor turkey. I cant find citronella plants to plant around there coop :/ any suggestions to prevent mosquitos biting them? Can I apply something on there combs? Should I apply iodine on the white ash dots? Is there an incecticed to spray around like crazy???Please help!!!

I'm surprised they don't just snap up the mosquitos! Free food is free food after all. I'm not sure what the weather is like where you live but if it's rela timely temperate and not freezing like here, then your local Lowes might have some citronella plants, I saw some a bit back. I'm afraid I don't know any other remedies though, besides maybe those bracelets or Off fan things but you should probably take someone else advice on that, I'm a newbie:D

I would not put any aromatics on the birds, they have very sensitive respiratory systems, or use insecticides.
Best deterrent I've seen for mosquitoes is a fan in the coop.
They don't like the moving air and it should be warm enough that it won't chill the birds.
No need to treat the bites, tho mosquitoes can spread dry pox, which is a virus and will pass only with time.
'Real' window screens, small enough mesh to block insect access might help.

Thankyou! Was wondering to stop by at lowes or homedepot and buy a small mosquito zepper and place it hanging on a corner of there coop? Free toasted bugs?

Bug zappers alone do not work on mosquitoes.

They are drawn in by carbon dioxide and heat.

I personally use 1-ounce peppermint oil, 1 quart 70% alcohol, and 1 tablespoon Dawn dish washing liquid mixed in a spray bottle.

This mixture will kill mosquitoes and other annoying insects on contact including spiders.

The peppermint oil will discourage spiders, flies, and others.

The dishwashing liquid will make the solution stick and kills on contact many species of insects.

Hope this helps.
