Just curious live in No. Calif and curious do we need to treat the hens for mosquitos? We tend to have them bad where we live and we treat our dogs but didn't know if there is something we need to do to protect our hens? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There may be other diseases to think about, but avian or fowl pox is a disease that can be brought in by mosquitoes. We don't have it so bad in my area--just a couple with a single scab occasionally, but in some areas the disease can affect many chickens in a flock. The diphtheric form or wet fowl pox, is deadly since it can block the airway and cause secondary infections. I would check into getting the vaccine to give my flock. Vaccines are available from veterinary stores online. Here is some information:

Thanks for your input will check with my local vet

You could try getting a mosquito repeller that they use in cow barns for your coop. I have used it for flies and it works fairly good.
