Most chicken-like?

I really want chickens, but I can't have them (my landlord doesn't want chickens).
What's the closest I can get? I have coturnix quail right now, but they don't roost and they're not super handleable.
It doesn't have to be a quail, if you have other suggestions, give those too!

I want:

relatively quiet (or a sound that could be mistaken for wild birds so the neighbors don't get nosy)
large enough for a purpose (meat or eggs) but not as bigger than a pound or two and nothing that has a 2 foot+ long tail or anything.
roosting
handleable

Uhh maybe pigeons from strombergs?Ive never raised them but I dunno I think there quiet and they do roost...I think.
