Most excited soon to be BYC keeper

Good afternoon!!!
I am Maxine.. and I live in Sunny South Africa. I have always wanted a couple/few hens to have for eggs and as "pets" and I am finally getting my own way. I veetoed the husband and my 3 yr old agreed with me. I am so glad there is this forum and page and I will be trawling it for as much info as I can get. I have 4 chickens already decided on and now busy planning the coop and run. I have also purchased a huge tray of seedling herbs and pansy's which I am going to plant out in the meantime. The garden has plenty of bugs to eat (bonus having a huge amount of pesky termites around).

Welcome and guess what! I'm in South Africa too! I'm also planning to get chickens (haven't got them yet) and I'm busy designing my run.I plan on getting 3 chickens and and they will stay in a run that runs around half of our vegetable garden. I want to get Buff Orpingtons. What chickens have you decided on? Hope you enjoy BYC

What breed(s) of chickens have you decided on? Your 3 year old should enjoy 'helping' you with them.

As chickens arent exactly a huge thing here (unless you live rural or just have whatever chicken you can find) I have found a place that has a couple of breeds available.
The 2 I am interested in are the Rhode Island Red or the Hyline White. Both apparently have the same kind of qualities. I wouldnt mind having a mixed group (2 of each). I know it sounds beyond daft but White chickens just give me the creeps. But then I have a strong aversion to white. White never stays clean around me so I avoid it.
