We have a Pekin duck with a wound that smells rotten and is infested with maggots. I think this is beyond our ability to treat. What is the best way to humanely put her down? I saw a technique for culling chicks that used an airtight container with ether (starting fluid). Would this be a quick and humane way to euthanize a full-grown duck? I really don't want to use the hatchet or shotgun method. :(

A shotgun would be WAY overkill, a waste, and a mess.. a .22 pistol to the back of the head works well if you have one?

Cervical dislocation (aka snapping their neck) is my goto method and hard to beat I think.. one person can do it easily, and don't have to worry about them moving their neck/ head away on the log while the hatchet is coming down.

There's also these: http://www.cutemdownwaterfowl.com/p...ext=The Finisher® is a,base of the skull meet.

I am just curious..... Can the Finisher tool work on poultry?
