did our spring cleaning today. I hate having to get that bean out of their pocket (sheath).

I have freinds that say they have never had to clean their geldings, both of mine need it at least 2 times a year. If some one knows what to do to keep them from getting a bean please let me know. Both the boys are good about it and stand for it to be done. DH is no help

he would rather pay the vet $40 to do it.

When my DH was still alive and still had his Appy, he would clean the gelding's sheath without batting an eye.

I've mostly been around mares and I had one mare who was extremely ticklish around her teats. Almost got kicked a few times.

It's just one of those things one must do.

If you think geldings are bad to clean, get a mare.

LOL!

My gelding is now 27 years old and has had this done only once when he was alot younger. The vet checks this everytime he does rabies and says looks good. (whos he kiddin!)

LOL! I just did all of my "spring cleaning" this past weekend. Pulled manes, trimmed tails and yes the dreaded sheath cleaning on the gelding. THANKFULLY when you pull out the brush and start grooming him he gets so relaxed that he drops and you can check real easy...I always check before I start washing in case any water may be too cold and he's not as "relaxed" anymore

He's 25 so very used to it. When I first got him he was pretty neglected and when the vet came out the day after he got here he checked him for a bean and got out a HUGE one. Poor guy was straining so much to pee past it.....

A freind taught her gelding to do that too. If you scrachted (sp) him on his tail head he would drop every time, if you did it two times he would pee!!!!!!!!

I use that cleaner with tea tree oil and the smell is not bad then.

I know it sounds kind of gross, but if once a week or so when you hose him of just kind of give him a 'sheath enema'. The more often you clean him the easier it will be. I used to use just plain baby oil on them. Have fun
