Just collected this from the coop a few minutes ago. Just HAD to post. I've gotten strange color rings on this side of hte egg before from one of my hens (I suspect the same one) but nothing like this. It looks like scarring after removed stitches. Seeing as it's an egg, that would be an impossible cause to the raised bumps on this egg.

Has this ever occurred before? What caused the stitch marks on this egg? It's even flatter on this side, as the egg isn't completely 'egg-shaped' at all...I set it on the bottom of an egg carton to keep it in this position ont he table for photos, because it wanted to roll over onto this flat surface.

So tell me what you think...I think weird eggs pop up and i've gotten peanut-shaped things and footballs and golf balls, you name it. But this?! I'm just astounded. Is there some internal issue I should be worried about?

o how strange...kinda neat looking...sorry i cant answer your ?...my dh and i wont have layers for another few months as we just got our first chickies and they are only just over 2 weeks old...lol

hopefully someone will give you an answer...hopefully nothing wrong w/ your hen

I've had 2 really strange eggs from my little flock this past year, but nothing that looked like that. I wish I'd taken photos of them, but I pitched them in the creek. One was like soft leather with the yolk on the outside. The other was egg shaped with ridges down the sides. Don't know which chicken produced it, but they were both brown eggs.

My older girls lay "sun eggs" (that's what my kids call them) once in awhile. I think it's just a glitch in the system. I know super wrinkly eggs that are the norm rather then the exception can be indicitive of one of the chicken diseases (can't remember which one) but I think your egg is just a cool looking glitch. My kids like to take colored pencils and fill in the sun when we get them.

I had a similar egg just the other day. We've had the fart eggs, the shell- less egg, the soft shelled egg, and then this one. It was solid, but looked soft. It was perfectly normal on the inside.

Someone may correct me here, but I THINK it is caused by the hen jumping down from a high place while the egg is being made.
