I had 16 hens that were laying and was told by a friend who I have since found out is not very knowledgable that I needed to mix scratch and mesh together so I bought 50 lbs of scratch and 50 lbs of layer mesh and mixed them. I had some wild dogs kill all but 1 hen. I bought some more chicks and had to change the food to start n grow. Now I have at least 85 lbs of feed that moth looking bugs have gotten into. I think they just got in. When I opened the lid of the bin the food is in I saw about 5 moth looking bugs on the top. I took some out and removed the bugs and the little 3 cocoon looking things. Should I throw it away? My DH will vomit if he finds out I have to throw it away. Please, please help.

I'm not sure - but think about this - when your chicks free-range they eat lots of bugs... so unless it is moldy or really old I would try some of it, seems to me that a little extra protien can't hurt. (I actually catch moths outside by my porch light because they chicks love them so much.)

While the moths themselves won't hurt them, it does indicate that this feed is pretty old, and that makes it more likely to be stale and moldy. I would toss it if it were me. It's not worth getting them sick.
