I think the red I saw was just his pink skin,

Yeah the dark one I'm not sure about, but I think it's a RIR. That is soo cute!! With it being that dark I would say it is at least half SLW, maybe you got lucky and got a purebred in there? The one that I showed you the other day (I think, I know I showed Cindy!) that I said was ugly is a pure SLW. Guess that's why it's so ugly!

pure slw would be ok with me, I think they're pretty. If not a bit odd - going by Spazz,

are all slw as weird as Spazz?

aint she cute? (and wet and icky

)

she's out totally, now, and wobbling around the bator. Still has some yolk to absorb, but she is perfect from what I can see.

Definitely looks like a SLW with all that yellow on its face! The SLW dad has are all really calm. You have to push them out of the way to go into the chicken house if they happen to be in the doorway!! But then again, since they are at least half Cristian's size, and he is the designated egg getter

I guess they aren't very intimidated!

Oh and just to rephrase, I think the SLW are very pretty, just not when they are babies!!
This is the ugly one that we have!

And some other babies we have hatched from those eggs...

Very cute!! And VERY wet! How high is your humidity? My chicks are never that wet!!

It zoomed to 75% but then it went back down and is about 50 - 55 now. I'd like to have it at about 60% but am having a hard time regulating it.

I now have three pipped (two not totally through the shell - just pointy cracks - but wiggly and cheeping)

Uno has been travelling all over the bator. Will she be ok to be knocking everyone else around a little? Her feet and legs look good, but she is still very wobbly, and can't control herself that well. Mostly she is wobbling on her tummy, like a Weeble.

maybe I ought to call her Weeble. Her peeping, though, is encouraging the other pips, I think. since she hatched I've had two pips that I didn't really have before.

I'm gonna hate to have to go to bed tonight

I do think that next time I won't do so many eggs at once, there isn't a lot of room in there for the babies that hatch to wobble around.

Her yolk is almost all absorbed, now, btw.

I love baby chickies

Yeah her bowling all the other eggs around will not hurt them at all. And she will get more steady on her feet the older she gets. She will eventually lay down and snuggle with one of the eggs, that is so cute when they do that! I have read that when they do that it's because that is the next one to hatch. I don't know, most mine just wander around lost like that!

One thing I have noticed is that the babies are very light sleepers. If you make the slightest sound they will wake up. Even another chick peeping will wake them. But no she won't hurt the other eggs at all.

None of your cochin eggs have pipped yet?

Nope, no cochin eggs yet, but it is still only day 20 - well, just started day 21.

One of the three pipped right now is one of mine - no idea who laid it, though, so it'll be interesting to see who comes out of it.

Will the baby be ok if she hits the coil ? I would think that would be hot, but she keeps standing up straight to stretch and test her legs, and sometimes she hits it with her head.

Ok, so baby still looks wet, and I opened it a tiny bit to check - he is not wet, just dried sticky - is this normal? or will he need a bath once he is ready to come out of the bator?

there was a lot of loose yolk like stuff that came out (of the egg)with him - some of it just fell off. It was like a yellow jello stuff. I think that is what is on him.
