Hi My female Muscovy which is all white has hatched 8 ducklings a month ago. It is her second hatching, the first time she only got one white drake out of it. He was about two months old when she started to sit on the next group of eggs.
This time she hatched all 8. 3 white like her and 5 multi-colored like father drake( 1 gray and yellow the other black and yellow). I had to get rid of him because he was trying to mate with the first white duckling, and attacking him.
Any way they have been being well taken cared of by mother duck until yesterday. It rained and she left them out in the rain. I got home and all were so close to death. Feet curled and out of it. I put them next to the brick oven base to get warm it worked out well. Then I locked mother and them in the shed over night. By morning the largest Drake duckling by size which was black and yellow was dead. Then it just got crazy. The mother has been attacking all the non white babies. They are now hiding in the bushes from her as she continues with the three white ducklings. I't seems to be based on their color. PLEASE Help me. I had to lock her in the shed and allow them to be together. But not sure what to do. Advise please. Oh I have raised chickens and noticed that they like to separate among like colors. But this is new to me. What happened?

Who knows why it has happened, but evidently she wants nothing to do with the multi colored ducklings. If they were mine, I would remove all of the ducklings from her, and put her back with the flock. I once had a hen that raised all buff chicks in her first brood. Her second brood had some black chicks in it, and she killed them. After the brood was raised, she went into the soup pot.
