For many seasons, I've never seen this happened!
Mama laying on eggs and few chicks started hatching.
Oh, about a week goes by, she had 8 chicks and still a few more eggs to hatch.
This morning I went to check on her and one chick peeked to death while mama was trying to kill another.
I snatched all the chicks and put them in the chickies room.
Now why would mama do a thing like that. I've hatched hundreds of chicks naturally and incubation.

Sadly, it sometimes happens. I have known of dogs that killed their pups, and of course we know about aberrant behavior on the part of some people. I would not allow her to set again, and I would gradually remove her daughters from the flock.

This unnaturally prolonged hatch might be the reason for her behaviour.

Make sure to collect the eggs you want a broody to hatch and give them all at the same time under the broody, so they will hatch at the same time and not disturb her "natural clock".
