I have a hen ( raising 6 7 week old chicks ) is acting very weird . Whenever a chick flaps its wings or even jumps she goes crazy and starts jumping and flapping with it . She even raises her neck feathers and pecks a little .Is this normal and why she is doing this
Any advice would be appreciated . Thanks in advance

She’s just being a mom. If she’s pecking at them she may also be starting to ween them. They are at that age where she may start forcing them to face life without her; to take what she has taught them and go live their chicken lives to the fullest 😀

Today she is showing dual behaviors
One time she is calling for food and clucking for them

Other time pecking them mostly two pullets ( they are bigger than rest )

Her pecking power getting stronger day by day

They are fully feathered ( except one she is under weight under size under feather 😂😂)
And they sleeps under her

Thanks in advance

Still normal... broodys tend to really know what they are doing. This stage is like the kid still lives with you, but you are trying to give the tough love and kick them out but it’s hard bc instinct still tells you to protect and parent. We’re not that different than chickens 🐔 🤣
Eventually they will all just be flock members. But for now just let nature run it’s course.
