Mother Hen is Watching!

I have a amber link we call Mother Hen that thinks she is the rooster of the flock. Always checking things out, and squawking at trouble. She is not at the top of the pecking order, But I always tell everyone, "Mother Hen is Watching"

She DOES look like an "in charge" kind of gal!

If I were a hen I would feel comfortable tucking my head in my feathers for a nap, while she stayed on watch, indeed!

Okay. I have a question. I have six chicks that I bought from TSC back on March 9th. I have read several threads and looked at many pictures of amber links. I am trying to figure out if mine is really a pullet. It has the long wattles (sp. I'm still learning...) and comb. This is my first flock of chickens and so I'm sort of learning as I go.

Nope, that looks like rooster. It happened to me as well. Out of the 6 Chicks I bought, one ended up being a rooster.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks! I was hoping it was NOT because it's the sweetest one I have and likes to be held. What a bummer.

You never know, he may be quiet. Don't get rid of him yet.
