Here is the scenario - broody sitting on 12 eggs. Knowing a number would be roos, on hatch day, I bought 5 pullets that went under her at night. No issues. Eggs continue to hatch through the day. However 2 of my 5 pullets did not survive - squashed? Or knows. But the 3 that were left she accepted. Yesterday ( she’s still sitting and hatching remember) I picked up 4 more pullets. Cause I will get rid of the Roos and I want hens. I slipped those under her just fine. 2 white leghorns and 2 americunas. Today she’s off the nest - leaving 3 eggs behind, one pipping. I have those under heat. However she does not like either one or both Americaunas. She has them under her but she won’t let them eat. I’ve only watched her interact with one. Not both at same time. So I can’t say if it’s both. I have 2 sets of food dishes and 2 sets of water. The rejected chick goes to the the dish. And mother watches like she’s ready to nail it for doing so. It’s not a total rejection. Both are under her. She lets them go under her as she watches. It’s just not nice that she is nailing one kid!! No issues with any other adoptees. Any thoughts? Should I remove the 2? Or will she get over it?? I don’t want to find the chick dead at her beak.
