Mother hens and chicks?

HI ALL.

I am wondering when a mother hen stops taking care of her chicks. What age are the chicks when she "weans" them off of her.

I've found with all of our momma hens that we have an average of 1 1/2 -2 months. Although we also have one momma hen that strays from chicks in just a few weeks, and one that latches to thier sides for ever. This particular one has been rearing her chicks for 4 months now. I think it just all depends on the hen and her nature.

I've seen people post here that their hens won't let go even when they're sitting on 6 nearly full grown chickens. Others have panicked when the hen decides she's done at 2 weeks.

Some just take a little longer than others!
