Made this thread earlier today and was advised to remove the remaining 2 eggs which have started to hatch. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...hicken-laying-on-its-back-pic-inside.1545105/

They are currently in a small box under a light, on a wet paper towel. Trying to keep temp at 97-99 and humidity 65-70%

Pipping Eggs.jpg

From what I have read so far the egg on the left is pipping(?) on the wrong side of the egg. It is pretty active, chirping frequently, and I can see movement under that membrane. Egg on the right is much quieter with a small crack, but I've heard it chirp. I know I am not supposed to rush in to helping but I'm looking for any advice on what to do from here. Today is day 21 and the eggs have been under the mother until this afternoon. I have been misting water in to the box and around/over the eggs to keep the humidity above 65%

What breed are they?

First, when you mist, don’t get the eggs wet. Also, I’d remove the wet towel from under them. Add a couple wet sponges (near the eggs but not touching them) that you can just pour a little water on as they dry out.

As far as the pips, hearing peeping is great! The left egg is pipped on the wrong end, but it looks like an area that shouldn’t have a problem hatching on its own. The second one looks good too. Temperature is key now. Just keep it in that range the best you can and wait them out. Keep an eye on the exposed membrane. If it starts to get yellow/brown, it’s more of an indication that it’s drying out and might need assistance. As long as it stays white/gray/ light brown, it should be fine. Since both chicks have broken the shells, they should finish hatching within about 24 hours of when they first pipped. If it goes much beyond that, look into assisting. I can link an article, if it gets close to that point.

Sorry the hen killed the first one. It happens with new broodies quite often, maybe she just wasn’t really ready to be a mom yet.

Thanks for the pointers. They are from my Olive Egger (Ameracauna) hen. I'm not sure who the dad is...it's either an Appenzellar Spitzhauben or a Lavender Ameracauna

I was mostly just curious about the breed, those should be able to hatch fine on their own. Good luck!
